The Perfect Solution To Turn Screen Obsessed Kids Into Creative Learners!

This post was sponsored by Trunk Works LLP. I received complimentary products to facilitate my review. All the opinions in this blog are mine.

As a mom who loves DIY’s and creating things, I’m always looking out for activities that foster learning and nurture, hands on and creative learners. These, I believe are important to success.

    • I believe that games should beckon innovation.
    • Creativity comes with thinking out of the box.
    • Creativity leads to improvisation.
    • Creativity is being a risk taker or mold breaker.
    • Creativity is passion.

TRUNKWORKS  echoes my sentiments and that’s one of the reasons why I love this brand!

    Trunk Works

    • What Is Trunk Works You Ask?

Trunk Works  is an all encompassing, age-appropriate, fun-inducing way of learning. The founders strongly believe that all children are highly capable, but just need the information to be disseminated in an age-appropriate and enjoyable manner.

To achieve this they decided to teach concepts using a hands-on, inquiry-based fun method. Their underlying goal is to foster exploration, creativity and curiosity. Children will be empowered and encouraged to approach math, science, language and targeted skill development with confidence.

Founded by Manini and Saloni who are moms to a six year old daughter and seven year old son respectively, Trunk Works is a fun high-quality games and activities which prevent a fear of math and science from seeping in, and which foster holistic language development during childhood.

    • How Is Their Learning And Play Material Different?

TRUNK-WORKSFrom their pitara of learning based material (and it’s an exhaustive list), here are the few which my babies have enjoyed to the optimum. The products that were sent to explore were as follows:

    1. Story Time Travel Card Game By Trunk Works

If you are looking for birthday favours, little give aways’ to kids who come visiting or simply for your kids, these are great! The story cards are compact with great imaginative prompts, perfect for those who aspire to become creative learners. Each card is used for inspiration.  I played this with both my kids and while the older one was able to incorporate the words from the cards rather meaningfully, the younger one was all over the place!

As your kids play with these cards, they’ll learn about sequencing and teamwork skills that will definitely come in handy as they develop their reading abilities. Plus, storytelling from an early age helps kids express thoughts and feelings, consider new ideas, and understand cause and effect.

These cards are distributed across themes such as objects, speech, scene and character thereby prompting kids to build imaginative and creative stories.

I’m headed for a camping trip this weekend and I’m certainly going to take them for the road trip! You can buy yours from Amazon, First Cry or in store at most Hamley’s outlets nationwide.

    2. Play Clay Mats By Trunk Works

We are in love with these play mats! It’s everything my creative learner son needs!

Packed in this box, we received 10 clay play mats (clay not included). It’s the first time I’ve seen something so basic and simple, yet so engaging. Whats amazing about these cards is that both my kids (you know Inaaya is 3 years and Ruhaan is 7 years) have enjoyed them.

On one side there is number skills  that reinforce counting, number recognition and number tracing (perfect for a pre-school like Inaaya who is just getting acquainted with number skills) and on the other side there are creative prompts which kept Ruhaan busy. It encouraged open-ended play with imagination and creativity. So I found Ruhaan using the supposed ice-cream sticks on the clay play  mats to make hand-puppet faces!

I think this opens a world of possible play options for kids. My children were using their fine motor skills to pinch, roll,  press and that was so satisfying.

We landed up missing our swimming coaching on this day because the kids just wouldn’t tire of their clay play! So if you are looking for a versatile and creative toy for your kids, this might just be your answer.

So if you are thinking what to get the toddlers in the family this Diwali, this is a wonderful gift to give. You can buy yours from Amazon, First Cry or in store at most Hamley’s outlets nationwide.

    3. Trunk Works Forest  Theme Wipe and Clean Kit

The more I talk about this, the lesser it is. Th e joy of this Forest Theme Kit has been in discovery.

A self contained kit, this one has been a surprise package all the way. What I really, really liked about this box was that there was all kinds of subject disciplines rolled into one small box. Themed around forests, this was like Discovery Channel in a box!
With prompts relating to math, language and science, the journey through the box unraveled unknown and unique facts about forests.

Suitable for kids over the age of 5, Ruhaan loved it! Every information sheet was a new learning experience. There was so much about Forest Scene Mathematical Patterns, Annual Growth Rings Of Trees, Scientific Inquiry on Leaves and Flowers, Symmetry in Nature, Camouflage, Leafy Word Formation, Living and Non-living things, an Adventure Packed Game on forest survival tactics and a mini forest plantation Game on addition and subtraction that it was almost like having 10 different games in the cost of one box!!

And wait, it gets better! What also makes this a wonderful gift giving option is that it is a self contained kit complete with  Information Flash Cards, Activity Sheets, Experiment Procedure and Observation Sheets, Tracing Material, Marker and ALL supporting material.

Really, it can’t get better than this I guess!! What’s keeping me really excited is their upcoming product range! Since I’ve had nothing less than a fantastic experience with their other products, I’m all excited about their under-progress products.

    About Me

Before I became a mom I had dedicated myself to being an Educator. As a teacher I always counselled parents on the battles that went on in their lives as mothers. Once a mother, these battles raged within me. Having said this, I also sensed that mothers around me are always in conflict within themselves.
