10 Mom Things I Want To Do Before Its Too Late

10 Mom Things I Want To Do Before It’s Too Late

I recently wrote an article for a reputed company which basically talked about the guilt moms go through. During the rendering of that article, when I read the statics that they had put forward, I was jolted. While I am totally aware of the guilt that I feel as a mom there is a big number of ladies out there who feel crushed under the pressure of Motherhood.

While attempting to form the perfect juxtapose between motherhood, working woman and myself, there are so many things that I wish I could let go of and simply savour being a mom.

So here’s my list of things that I had done more as a mom

    1. Kept track of their little things.

Though I have everything documented in my mind, I really wish I had done this. I wish I had something more tangible that I had documented. Something in a nice scrap book or a baby book that I could sit in my years of white hair and look back at smilingly. I’m going to probably start one now and title it ‘7 year on wards’ and ‘3 year on wards.’

    2. Kicked the ball more.

I always took the kids to play. Enjoyed my time with them in the park. But I truly wished I       played with them more.

    3. Let the house be a mess.

I know there were times when they pleased “Ma just this last story” and I had to refuse               because the laundry was yet to be done. The laundry is still there, but the kids are older and     really off to school so much more. So you see, I really wish that I had let the house be instead of asking the kids to let go.

    4. Individual time with my kids.

The kids are not that old yet and I still have time to do this. But I really wish that I can spend   more individual time with each child. Just random trips to the book shop, a cupcake date,         swimming: I really wish I could really use more of this one on one time.

    5. Not been on the screen that much.

My family has been complaining about this and I can see why. But really, it’s my work! If I       don’t write, I don’t make any big bucks! But really with this entire burst in digital media, I find that I depend on my phone a lot, a whole bloody lot. I totally had to restrict this.

    6. Being more of a minimalist.

I have started practicing minimalism in my family because I realize that more stuff equals more to manage equals more to clean equals more time spent on things and not time. Here’s a piece I wrote on “Toy Minimalism And How It Helped My Kids.’

    7. Compared less.

This I would like to blame on the ‘Social Media,’…aaaaaaargghh! With all those spotless homes, immaculately dressed mom, kids looking like they came off GAP advertisments, I couldn’t help but wondering how they do it! This comparison keeps you away from enjoying what you have.

    8. Taken care of myself.

When I had baby, I thought being a mom meant ‘always being there.’ Night and day, 24*7. I didn’t take help often, neglecting myself. I really wish I had taken those breaks when people offered help and got out for longer.

    9. Let them help me more.

I have always been on the clock. The machine had to be loaded before breakfast, breakfast had to be done before the maid came in to clean, and so much more so that I was always looking at the clock. So often, oh so often, when I kids wanted to help, I turned them down. When kids want to help it slows things down and often I’d just keep racing versus slowing down and teaching them.  I would really love to go back and do this more. Instead of rushing through, slow down and teach them and instill wonder.

    10. Accept that some days are just meant to do nothing.

This. I definitely need to learn to enjoy this…Sigh…hoping it’s not too late ….

    kid, mom, moms

    About Me

Before I became a mom I had dedicated myself to being an Educator. As a teacher I always counselled parents on the battles that went on in their lives as mothers. Once a mother, these battles raged within me. Having said this, I also sensed that mothers around me are always in conflict within themselves.
